Liz Phair (natural April 17, 1967) is an American singer/songwriter and guitarist. She emerged from either Chicago, Illinois with her debut album, Exile in Guyville, and became the critical darling. Background
Phair was innate Elizabeth Clark Phair inside New Haven, Connecticut, but was raised in the suburban area of Chicago by her moneyed adopter. She was the student of New Trier High School. When researching art history at Oberlin College in Ohio, Phair met guitarist Chris Brokaw (late of Come) and the pair moved to San Francisco for a brief period of time. When retire to Chicago, Phair began writing songs & releasing homemade tapes under a title Girlysound, supporting herself by selling her drawings on the streets of Chicago. Presently, she was the section of the guide music scene within Chicago & became friends by owning Urge Overkill, a popular band, too when Brad Wood and John Henderson, head of Feel Good All Over, an independent label in Chicago. An attempt at recording a Girlysound tapes failed due to arguments between Henderson & Phair.

Meanwhile Brokaw gave many Girlysound tapes to the head of Matador Records, Gerard Cosley, leading to a contract. Phair's debut album, Exile in Guyville, was released around 1993 and received uniformly excellent reviews. A album attracted critical attention because it was apparently structured as a woman's response to the Rolling Stones' classic Exile on Main Street, although a comparison of the ii albums shows that this claim was, at the best, overdone. A critical profits of Guyville intended Phair shortly attracted naysayers in the indie rock scene, notably including Steve Albini, but her fanbase continued to develop. A album established Phair's preference for researching sexually expressed lyrics like in the song "Flower": "I want to be your blow job queen/...I'll fuck you and your minions too." Despite such provocative lyrics, her trademark great, vibrato-less voice gave many of her songs the slightly detached, near poker-faced character.

Phair's 2nd album received good deal media attention & an advertising blitz. Whip-Smart debuted at #27 in 1994 and "Supernova", the foremost individual, became the Top Ten modern rock hit. Within spite of this, a album received mixed reviews & did non sell swell. Within 1995, Phair married Jim Staskauskas (whom she later divorced), the film editor world health organizatiin got worked on her cd, and so discharged Juvenilia, an EP that included Girlysound poop. She worked in her third album for an extended period, delayed per birth of the infant, James Nicholas Staskauskas, in December 21, 1996. whitechocolatespaceegg was finally freed inside 1998.

Inside 2003, her self-titled fourth album was freed. Ab initio, Phair worked in many album tracks by owning songster Michael Penn producing. Whenever a album was freed, even so, virtually all of a media attentiin was focused non on the Penn-produced music, however on many tracks by the glossy pop-rock team called The Matrix.

Despite numbers of blackball reviews, especially from either a independent music click world health organization considered Phair to develop sold out by making a record super pop-oriented, Liz Phair garnered some commercial attention & seemed to propel Phair away from a "alternative-chick" category & nearer to the popular stock and index charts. A debut only "Why Can't I?", co-written by The Matrix, became a major hit in the N United states of america, & its watch-higher, "Extraordinary", was likewise somewhat successful & appeared on the soundtrack to the 2004 movie Raising Helen. Phair continued to think of sexually expressed themes, nevertheless, when was virtually all evident within the track known as "H.W.C.", which stood for "Hot White Cum" (watch Fellatio).

Phair's recently album, ''Somebody's Miracle'', was released on October 4, 2005.

Phair is as well an outspoken feminist. She married around 1995, however saved her maiden title. She hwhen been quoted as expression, ""We are the women's rightist, & I personally define myself: Exist as yourself, because if you might become away using it, that is the ultimate feminist work."
